MVS-15000BM

The cluster MVS-15000BM is the most powerful supercomputer in Russia for civil applications with the peak performance 8.13 Teraflops. Total amount of the RAM is 1848 Gbytes.

The cluster MVS-15000BM consists of

  • 33 base blocks with 14 dual-processors nodes each;
  • 5 I/O nodes with IBM General Parallel File System connected to 4 IBM FAStT700;
  • NetApp F840 NAS File server;
  • Myrinet 2000 Communication network;
  • Fast/Gigabit Ethernet system network;
  • Gigabit Ethernet data network;
  • Service station;
  • Uninterruptible power supply.

Each node includes:

  • 2 processors PowerPC 970+ 2.2 GHz;
  • 4 GB shared RAM;
  • 40 GB HDD;
  • Myrinet network adapter;
  • 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports;
  • Peak performance of the node is 17.6 Gflops.

The nodes are connected by high speed Myrinet2000 network (2 Gb/s) and two GigabitEthernet (1 Gb/s). Myrinet2000 is used for data exchange during calculations. GigabitEthernet #0 is used for program boot loading and for control and monitoring. GigabitEthernet #1 is used for external data access.

The cluster is connected to NetApp file server with two Gigabit Ethernet channels and to parallel file system with 10 Gigabit Ethernet channels.

The MVS-15000BM uses two Myrinet 128-ports fully connected Myrinet switch. When MPI is used, unidirectional data transfer speed between two nodes is about 250 MB/s.

CLUSTER SOFTWARE

  • operating system SuSE SLES9 with SMP support (host machines as well as computational nodes);
  • programming environment MPICH for GM;
  • communication libraries for Myrinet and Gigabit Ethernet;
  • software tools, including IBM optimizing compilers C, C++, FORTRAN, mathematical library ESSL, Distributed Debugging Tool (DDT), OptimaNumerics libraries;
  • parallel control and monitoring tools.

The peak performance of cluster will rise to 15 Teraflops in the feature.
